Re: Spindle Shaft Replacement
Neville, Since we are in the Northern Hemisphere, our machine does not need to be bolted to the earth to keep it from falling off like yours on bottom of the globe. To avoid having to lay on your back on the floor or table, you could maybe just loosen the thing and let it drift off the Earth so you ...

Re: Spindle Shaft Replacement
Neville, Thermwood sent me detailed instructions that included photos of every step and everything marked pretty clearly. Even we figured it out. Just ask them to send the instructions if you ever need a spindle. Make sure you have metric and english allen wrenches.

Re: Spindle Shaft Replacement
Josh - I am sure your spindles had more hours than ours. We are about a 4-6 hours per day run time operation on cnc. Forrest - For our $3000+ USD, we got a REBUILT spindle and a $500 core credit when we returned our old one. Not sure if a new one is more or not? Never asked because I needed a spindl...

Spindle Shaft Replacement
For what it is worth, maybe a help to somebody else, we have a CS40 that we bought in 2003 and really never had a breakdown. Months ago we started hearing a little "clack" when the tool released during a change. Never thought much about it. Then we started getting more than normal amounts ...

Re: melamine tooling
Will, I was in on that discussion and that is what warped my brain. "Going faster is better and keeps tools sharper longer" was what the counterintuitive reference was. It really made me take a hard look at the tools and speeds we were using. VERY helpful to us anyway, even though I have a...

Re: melamine tooling
Scott, thanks for reply. When you say set max plunge to .25, will it then make 3 passes if I have a 0.625" deep rout? Daniel, thanks too for replying. We use comp bits whenever we can but going only .188 deep would be on the upshear portion and that is no good in melamine! I need to upgrade our...

melamine tooling
We have historically used a 1/2" straight cutter to make routed holes for inlaying adjustable track into sides of cabinet. FWIW, the track we used is KV and rout is 0.188" deep x 0.635" wide so comp tool no good either. Anyway, we get little tiny chips of melamine as the tool wears an...

Re: Operator Training
Fred, we are a small shop with only 14 employees. My operator and I share cutting duties and he cuts >75% and I cut some depending on how busy we are. My operator is responsible for all maintenance, greasing, filling oilers, housekeeping, etc. He also keeps tools sharp and changed as necessary. We d...

Al, I just hope this conversation with your wife didn't start with "Honey, I bet after 6 weeks I can type as fast as you..." You'll be eating those words along with doing the cooking!

Re: Hand Held Controller
Nicholas, we ordered our CS45 without one to trry and save some money and within a month or two ended up buying a hand held. We don't use it that often but it is vital to have it when you do need it. I suggest you get it.
