Re: Flip Op

Just a note for small pieces. I made a flip-op fence out of 1/2" prefinished nine ply apple plywood that I can leave in place while the machine performs the operation. Then I place some scrap pieces of the apple plywood around the piece being machined and it doesn't move. I tried double sided t...

Re: 1-sided/2-sided material

If you guys cut the hinge holes with the router how do you edgeband the door without the copy wheel on the bander falling in the hole? I have an old bander and I can't band a door with a hinge hole in it for that reason. 8)

Re: Outline Tooling:

Leigh, if I am using a 1/2" two flute compression bit the settings are as follows: Plunge speed 400 ipm (10,160 mmpm) Feed speed 600 ipm (15,240 mmpm) Spindle speed 18000 Do you have a chip load chart? I got one for Vortex cutters in the Vortex catalogue. Chip loads need to be calculated to get...

Re: Outline Tooling:

Hi, Leigh. We use 3/8" & 1/2" compression bits for mdf and chip board and a 3/8" compression chipper for plywood panels. Are your diamond bits ground with the compression geometry? If not that may be why your finish cut is not so clean. 8)

Re: Commercial Cabinet guru help!!!

Damon, our commercial cabinets all sit on ladder bases too. (we make them with exterior grade materials) Also, at least in California, if the cabinets will be used to hold anything for food preparation or storage the top side of the bottom shelf must be a minimum of 6" above the finished floor....

Re: Looking for Info on a CNC Machine

John, the Thermwood machine will do all you need. Something to consider is you do not need to bore full rows of holes. The ecabients software will put holes where you need them for drawer slides, adjustable shelves, rafix fasteners, hinge plates or anything else you need. Also, as Gary pointed out, ...

Re: Automatic Oiler

Gary, we cranked it up until it dripped oil out the bearings and then backed it off. Also, we found that we had to tweek some things to get the oil evenly distributed to all the bearings. We moved the block that is on the back of the gantry a little out of level and even put some tooth picks in some...

Re: Custom Layout

Hi, Thom

We do medium to high end custom work so a basic kitchen can take from 2 to 8 hours, or more, to design, layout, and prepare for the shop. If I am doing presentations for the customer it might add 2 to 10 more hours. 8)

Re: Removing Hardware Hole Association

Jim, it is possible to associate a different slide and hole pattern to each drawer in a single cabinet. All you have to do is select your desired hardware before you add the drawer box to the cabinet. You can even have different drawer boxes with different construction or materials. Simply select wh...

Re: CNC router purchase or not

Neal, I have been in the cabinet business for over 30 years and 9 or 10 years ago I started to see ads in trade magazines about nested base processing on cnc routers. I knew this was the wave of the future for our industry and hoped that one day I would have one of these awsome machines. About a yea...

Matt, My name is Jerry Johnson and I am in Paso Robles, CA which is about 5 hours north of you. I have been using my Thermwood for about a year and am pretty good at it. I think I am listed on the production sharing list as Cornerstone Cabinets. I know the distance between us is large but maybe you ...

Leigh, you can do what I suggested but only to the doors and drawer fronts so I see your dilema. Maybe this will be a future modification to the program?

Re: Materials

Yes. A way to keep the material in the same sheet is to take your cabinet into cabinet editor and add a display panel with the desired texture. Then you can highlight a part on the cabinet, match the texture to the display panel, then delete the display panle. This keeps all the parts made of the co...

Re: KD/RTA Fasteners ?

Terry, I have recently started to use this system for some closet components I make for another shop. I have been using the default Hafele pattern that is in e-cabinets which is the Hafele "Rafix" system. You can go to http://www.hafele.com to see a complete catalogue as well as order the ...
