No, but re-running doesn't hurt (but doesn't help, either). The Quadro Tweak Utility puts information into nVidia's section of the registry where eCabinet Systems installs and upgrades don't write.

Curiously, why do you ask?

The Tweak Utility is always best for Quadro FX cards on Windows XP.

nVidia doesn't have an eCabinet Systems profile built in and the Tweak Utility provides it.

George,

You definitely don't want that one (it's got the slow PCI interface) unless you don't have the AGP or the even better PCI Express socket.

The GeForce series is better suited to Direct3D (games) than OpenGL (eCabinets).

Here's an nVidia Quadro FX 560 that's made by PNY available from CDW for $274.

You need to ensure you've got a PCI-Express socket as this card isn't AGP.

I would like to comment that using the amount of memory as a benchmark is flawed. A few years ago, faster graphics cards generally had more memory; today, this isn't true. I can speak from test results that a 128MB nVidia Quadro FX 550 graphics card will run circles around a 256MB ATI Radeon 9800 XT...

Wow, Dan! That's pretty neat. I didn't even know about that method of finding the refurbs. Certainly some good pricing there.

It should be noted that the Quadro FX cards offer improved frames per second performance under Windows XP only. nVidia's drivers under Windows Vista are still in development.

Thermwood, because it still doesn't officially support Windows Vista, has not tested many graphics cards under Windows Vista.

Dale, Sorry, I just haven't had time to respond to your PM. nVidia's GeForce series are really very stable with eCabinets, especially on Windows XP. The nVidia Quadro FX 540/550/560 cards are priced reasonably and perform very well with eCabinet Systems, if you want an alternative to the FX 4500. I'...

This forum is unlike most Internet forums; everyone here is pretty darn courteous. As for answers, I'll leave that to the rest of the group.

Bill,

For now, avoid Windows Vista. Take the free upgrade, if offered, but run with Windows XP until Vista's video drivers stabilize.
