computer performance

Postby Jon Dieterlen » Sat, Jul 31 2010, 5:22PM

I recently got a new (refurbished Dell) M6400 Precision mobile workstation. This was to replace the 5 year old gateway that was stolen a couple of weeks ago.

The specs of the new machine is as follows: P8600 processor, windows XP 32 bit, 4 GB Ram ( I realize not all 4G is accesible due to the 32 bit limitation), Nvidea FX3700m 1G.

My old system had an ATI integrated graghics, 1G ram.

The Dell is really jerky in the room layout. Way more jerky than my old machine. I see no difference in the speed in the cabinet editor. I haven't used the LDE yet, but I don't expect any improvement there either.

All in all, I am disappointed in the performance of what should be a blow em out of the water machine. I will try updating the driver. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.

Does anyone else have problems with the cabinets in room layout turning black when placing cabinets?

Jon, do the driver update and see where that gets you. That rig should run the program without a hitch.
But the cabinet is perfect

Jon,

Enter your Service Tag number for your computer on the Dell site and that will get you the list of driver updates.

Yes I also have the cabinets turn black, or sometimes grey. Dont know why. Annoying, but if you click on render, and then go back to room layout, it should put things back to normal.

Jon,

Something else to try

Right click on your desktop
Choose Properties
Click Settings Tab
Click Advanced Button
Click the tab for your Graphics card controls
Find your Open GL Settings and set the Open GL to emphasize performance instead of quality
See if this helps movement etc. If not you can change back.
