Open job - add new material, repeat

Post by Donald Thomson »

I 'm finding in V6 that each time I open a job consisting of 2 cabinets it prompts me to add new material. It is the same material each time - 1/2 Maple - prefinished. So I open the job it prompts me for the new material - I call it 1/2 Maple - prefinished da. Save job, close eCabs, start eCabs, open job back up, prompt for new material again. So I now call it 1/2 Maple - prefinished dada. Save job, close eCabs, start eCabs, open job back up, once again prompted for new material again. :wall:

Not sure what is going on but I will eventually run out of material database space with all the "da"'s I have to keep adding to the material name every time I open the job.

This didn't happen in V5. Any help would be appreciated.

Donald,
Did you 'upgrade the job to v6' when prompted?
If so, did you save the upgraded job before re-opening it?

Josh,

Yes, I did upgrade the cabinet to a V6 cabinet. Yes, I did save the project prior to closing eCabs and restarting it and reopening the job.

Donald,

I just tried your job, added the material like it asked, checked the sheet stock in setting/preferences to make sure it was there. Saved the job and reopened everything was fine.

When you save a job, what directory path are you in?
When you open a job, what directory path are you in?
Are they the same?

Rick,

I open the job from the same folder every time. I save it to the exact same folder every time. It is not one of the eCabs folders. It is my own customer folder on my computer.

But what are the paths?

ex c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Thermwood\eCabinet Systems\Customers Folder

or

c:\Program Files\Thermwood\eCabinet Systems\Customers Folder

Rick,

For this job I open and save to this path.

D:\My Documents\Diamond Lake Custom Woodworks\Shop accessories drawings

When I'm doing projects for customers I don't save them into Thermwood folders. I create folders in my company folder under \My Documents and save there. This keeps the jobs in a location specifically for each customer. I've done my document management this way since computers had the capability of directory/folder management capabilities. This way I only have to back up My Documents to keep everything safe.

Yes, I go back in time far enough with computers that I programmed them using jumper wires. Ouch, I'm really dating myself... :?

Rick,

I think between Roger Kirkpatrick and I we have discovered something. When creating a TWD and you change the material thickness somehow the material database is getting updated with the new material thickness. So next time you load the job/cabinet it prompts you for a new material because the one you changed the thickness on, during TWD creation, now has its thickness reset in the database. Roger had this problem and when I saw him post it on the Shopbot forum I tested this and this seems to be what is happening.

Donald/Rick,

I have been beating my head :wall: for many hours trying to find this, and I think I have.

It is not the defined material that you are having trouble with (Setting/Preferences->Define Material). Instead, you are seeing that the JOB is changing the defined material.

Rick found this error here

This is an issue.
 GREAT CATCH.
