Need to make a door with a center style

Post by Gary Puckett »

I know I should know how to do this but how can you make a door that is resizable that has a center style? The door will have a flat panel.

Thanks

Well, at this point you won't be able to do a re-sizable "door" with a mid-style in the software. What I have done to simulate doors with mid-rails that re-size is to make a door out of a face frame and then use a slab door of the desired thickness for the panel. I then inset the door (panel) in the Door Editor and use negative overlaps.

You can also just take a flat panel door and place in on a cabinet and then use a display board for the muntin. but that will not resize.

I have included an example of a passage door. This uses a 1 3/8" thick faceframe.

You can use what ever door you want to add it to all your cabinets then just add a display board in the middle. If you make the display board like 11/16" instead of 3/4" then you can make the display board a little longer then the panel opening and just set it into the door 1/32" and you wont see the over lap. Its a lot easier to just add a display board to each door then to make custom sized doors for everything. You can even match the profile on each side of the display board to match whatever door you are using.

You can make a re-sizeable door frame by deleting the top, sides, and deck from a cabinet with face frames. Use a 1/4 inch back, inset to be flush with the back of the face frame for the field panel. I'm still thinking how to design individual panels that re-size with the frame. Using this technique as a base, it would appear that we are closer to a custom door designer than we may have thought. In fact, since you can take individual parts of the face frame to the part editor, it may already be here.

May I offer yet another plug for the training videos, which really demonstrate the flexibility of this amazing software innovation.

OK. I figured out how to make the panels. Place drawer fronts in each opening. Drawer front material 1/4" stock. Rotate grain 90 degrees. Inset the drawer front 1/2" so the panel is centered in the frame. Set offsets to negative 1/4" on all sides so the panels are over sized.

Here is the result, the same cabinet in two different sizes.

A discussion of doors is going on in this thread and one entitled "after V6 is fixed". I posted a method in the two posts above, which I thought addressed the issue of displaying, adjusting size, and cut listing. In short this was using face frames for the door frame and drawers fronts for the door panels. Didn't get any response so I may be missing something. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Glenn,

Sorry, and thanks for the reply I know that this can be done by your method, but the object is to simplify things and to get them done quickly.
The time you took to explain the steps on how to produce the door is greatly appreciated.

Glenn, I case you didn't notice, I posted the same thing earlier. This is not a great alternative to having a versatile door editor. The doors that you create this way may be re-sizable, but they can not be placed automatically when an opening is selected, they will not be replaced if a cabinet is selected in the Custom Layout Editor, they will not show up in your list of doors and they will not re-size with the cabinet box from the Custom Layout Editor. Adding this type of "door" is a temporary solution.

Thanks for taking the time to post.

You can also use this method to create pre-hung passage doors. Sorry, I don't have any door knobs.

Hi George,

I get my doors from WalzCraft they have so many doors, drawers, mouldings, wainscot, concave/convex doors, and valances that is would be hard to tell you an exact one. Just go to WalzCraft.com and request a catalog.

Thanks

I was going to make some of the doors that you have order.
I was going to make them up in STL Files. That way you could resize them to show the customers doors on e-Cabinet cabinets.
I had to take a break from the garage I am doing for a customer
I showed them a picture of one we did years ago they would like to put it on there garage

Here is what the garage looks like now and what it will look like.
New garage 30' W x 36' D Block 11' to top of roof 19'-6 3/8" from new pad.
This is why I show all our customers in 3D that is why I like e-Cabinets so much they can see before and after.
Why I show it in 3D the job is 90% sold all you have to do is sell 10% then you can go have a
