Interesting screen while viewing room layout

Post by Donald Thomson »

I was working on a cabinet doing some edits and when I tried to return to room layout I got this very interesting screen. I had to exit eCabs loosing a little bit of work and restart it again. I'm looking forward to a stable version of this software that can be used without worrying about it crashing or doing weird things. :(

Kinda hard to even see what is in the image, at least on my screen. You might need to give a few more details and maybe upload your project file so Thermwood can have a look at it.

Joe,

When I switched from CE back to room layout mode, it took the lower left portion of the eCabs window and put it into the area where the room layout should have been. If you look closely at the entire image, you can see the lower left portion of the screen replicated in the room layout window. That's what I thought was interesting. When I shut the program down and restarted it the room layout came up just fine. I can't explain it that's for sure.

I developed applications in the Windows environment since Windows version 2.0 up to Windows NT (I left the computer programming business in 2000) and I can say I've never seen this happen before. I wouldn't even know how to duplicate it. :?

I just thought it was really interesting and makes me concerned about using eCabs version 6 for projects that I have to make a living from. I'm tempted to go back to Version 5 until 6 is more stable and a whole lot faster.

Donald.

I have had something similar before and it seems to happen when I use eCabinets for a long period of time without re-starting Windows and the eCabinets program. (even in V5)
Now I make it a habit, when I am working eCabinets all day, to shut down eCabinets and Windows every hour or two and re-start. Maybe just superstition but it seems to help many eCabinets problems and crashes.

I understand your frustration with lack of speed. I guess I feel that I shouldn't have to wait on anything that is traveling at the speed of light. :)

Kerry,

I'm finding that I can only go about 15 minutes between shut down and restart. It makes it tough to be productive when you have to shut down and restart your work flow that often. I sure hope the next build is going to speed things up and stabilize things a lot better. As of now, version 6 might have to take a back seat and version 5 reloaded so I can get some work done. :(

Ya know Don, with your programming and probably debugging skills you might want to sign up to beta test this software. This way you can get more of the problems fixed faster. As a former programmer I'm sure that you also know that Thermwood needs a few more clues to be able to track a down bug like you mentioned.

With over 25 years experience as a software engineer myself I would love to have access to the code which would make beta testing a whole lot easier and more thorough for me. I would love to be able to start up the Visual Studio debugger whenever I have a crash to get an idea what happened and what needs to be fixed.

Good suggestion Joe. How would I get signed up to be a beta tester? I'd love to try and help contribute to a stable and robust platform to work with.
