Odd happenings with build 5

Post by DanEpps »

I first noticed that the number of slides for a batch job was incorrect and started experimenting. Here is what I found (notice the cabinet size issue as well):

1. Started with standard framed base.
2. Removed doors, mid rail and mid stile.
3. Set default drawer box.
4. Added 3 drawers with boxes.
5. Added 3 slides to cabinet.
6. Saved with name "3 Drawer Base" (name is not important).

The cabinet correctly shows the size and slide count.

Next steps:

1. Clear workspace.
2. Click Information (i) icon for just saved cabinet.

The size is shown as 0"w, 0"h and 0"d!!!

Next steps:

1. Clear Cabinet Editor and click Batch icon.
2. Clicked Information (i) icon for just saved cabinet--size is still shown as 0"w, 0"h and 0"d.
3. Clicked cabinet to add to batch.
Batch Selection.jpg
Quantity to Add dialog shows size as 0"w, 0"h and 0"d.

Next steps:

1. Changed quantity to 3.
2. Created nest.
3. Created Buy List.

Slide quantity was 3 instead of 9.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that the slide count is correct when 3 copies of the cabinet are placed in a room and nested. This only occurs in batch.

Dan,

I need more help from you... I cannot seem to reproduce this. Your steps seem pretty straight forward, but I cannot get any of this to happen yet. Is anyone else able to reproduce this??

Here is the troublesome cabinet. I can recreate it every time by starting with a standard base framed.

I first noticed the incorrect slide count in another job. I started investigating why the count was wrong and found that even starting with a standard cabinet, the batch count would be wrong.

What other information do you need?

Dan & Scott,
I don't get those results - everything behaves as it should.
Dan, curious: what drawer box are you using?

It's just a plain, full dado drawer box that originally came from the standard boxes.

I just tried again, starting with a standard base framed. I removed the doors, drawer front, shelf, mid rail and mid stile. Then I set the default drawer box to Standard Drawer.hsf. Changed Construction Settings to add box with drawer front, rear inset 1"; top, bottom, left and right insets .5"; .5" reveals (full overlay slab drawer fronts) and clicked Add Drawer. I changed the quantity to 3 and added the drawers.

Next I went back to Main, double-clicked the cabinet and added 3 slides to it. Saved the cabinet, cleared the workspace and went to batch.

Selected the cabinet, changed quantity to 3 and added it to the batch. Looked at Buy List and Cost Sheet, both show only 3 slides instead of 9. I get the same result after nesting. It is just showing the slide quantity for a single cabinet, no matter how many are in the batch.

The cabinet does show the correct dimensions this time so that must have come from the other drawer box as Josh suggested.

Dan,

I see the issue with the drawer slides (FYI: this is an old issue and is not new to or caused by Bld 5). It boils down to "Added" hardware items are not showing the quantities correctly in the old buy list and the cost sheet when multiple quantities of cabs are added to the batch (I was not seeing it earlier because I was adding them on with the drawer fronts before you gave us your steps in your last post). The newer Item Window Cabinet/Job Buy lists will show this correctly. For now, you can set a drawer slide default and have it add to cabinet as each front is added and it will show correctly in all areas. You do not have to set a pattern for the slide unless of course you want to. This may just be my opinion, but that seems like a better way to go, as it will add a slide automatically based on how many drawers you add to the cab (not trying to diminish the issue here, which we will resolve and appreciate you bringing it to our attention). Also, don't forget about the handy Apply to/Clear... icon options that will let you Apply to Cabinet, Clear from Cabinet, Apply to Selected Parts, and Clear from Selected Parts.

Now, the second thing is the 0"h 0"w 0"d issue you were seeing. I cannot reproduce that and am very interested in narrowing that one down if I can. I saved the drawer box from the cabinet you posted here earlier and cannot reproduce the issue using it in a standard base framed as you described at the beginning of the post. Can you still reproduce it with the drawer box you were using at the start of this post?? If so, could you please attach that drawer box file and some steps(if diff from previous steps). Thanks in advance for you help.

I usually do add slides as defaults but just added them to a cabinet that I had forgotten to set defaults on (I know, I know...I could've gone back and set the defaults but I didn't  ).

Of course I can't reproduce the 0-0-0 issue. I even rebooted yesterday and was able to reproduce it but today it behaves correctly...go figure.

Yeah, that's the way it goes some times... all you can do is keep an eye out and move forward. Thanks for getting back with me.
