Being able to align mid stiles and rails to partitions and fixed shelves using Mid Rail/Stile float settings is great but I would like to see the ability to define my openings in the face frame editor using mid stiles and rails then go to the Shelf partition editor and select a fixed shelf or partition and use the float settings to move the shelf or partition into place aligning to the face frame part instead of the inverse. In face frame construction you always define your openings with the face frame members and need the ability to automatically align carcass parts.

Am I missing something, where is this function?

Re: Reverse the Mid Stile and Rail Float Functionality
Count me in as a third second. With a caveat, we need to be able to set and "lock" a framed opening (or frameless) such as the opening for the drawer in a base. Having these resize with height changes really adds to the work required to bring seeds to a batch when height changes are needed.

Gary, I can probably trace the lock opening request back about 5 years so maybe something is closer to being done now. It must be more difficult than it sounds or I believe it would have been implemented by now.

Re: Reverse the Mid Stile and Rail Float Functionality
Leo,
In the face frame editor when you place a mid rail or mid stile over an existing fixed shelf or partition you can click on the mid stile/rail to highlight it and it activates a numerical entry box on the left to adjust the float. For example with a 2" mid stile you can enter a 0" float to align the stile with one edge of the partition, a 1 1/4" float to align it to the other edge or a 5/8" float to center the stile over the partition.
The problem I have with this is that I define all my openings with the face frame parts and would like to be able to highlight the partition in the Shelf Partition editor and move it to align with the face frame instead of the face frame to the partition.
Locking openings would also be great and would make the resize feature truly usable but as Forrest stated it has been on the list for a long time.

Re: Reverse the Mid Stile and Rail Float Functionality
OK, got it. Never noticed before.
I agree. The FFs are the defining part to determine spacing and the partitions and shelves should be moving to define the float, not the FFs themselves. The function should probably be in the shelf editor instead of being in the FF editor.
Thanks Kerry.

Forrest...
I am relatively new. Didnt realize I was beating a dead horse.
Kerry...
I agree. On a framed cabinet it is imperative that the frame members drive the location of their respective partitions/shelves. Especially when using all dadoed frames as I do.
