Corruption of LocalStore.mdb when exiting eCab

Post by Rich Marx »

Hi, all

I have this nasty recurring issue as of late that crashes the program and sometimes Windows (XP32bit) as well. I am very careful to clear any jobs out and use the 'File, Exit' dropdown, but one out of three or four times the program will crash. The error message is "Unrecognized database format - C;\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Thermwood\eCabinet Systems\Localstore\Localstore.mdb"
It does appear that this database is then corrupted, as I then need to delete it and subsequently launch 'Repair' of eCabinets in Add/Remove Programs. Has anyone run across this and know of a fix or workaround?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Rich,

Do you have a virus protection software running (most people do anymore). If so you may want to try and exclude the eCabinet Systems working folders from it. I would exclude the path { C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Thermwood } and your User Data Path as well. The default User Data path for XP is: {C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\(shared)Documents\Thermwood\eCabinet Systems\}. Exclude these and see if that helps.

Hi, Scott
I have Norton 360 AntiVirus. I turned off scanning for the folder hierarchies you suggested. All seemed good for a few program closings until today. But when I chose File/Exit in eCabs Windows crashed. I received a slightly different error when subsequently trying to open eCab , although it looks quite related to a database corruption issue. See below.

Thanks for your earlier suggestion, although it appears I don't have this under control yet.

Rich,

Could you please attach the LocalStore.mdb file that exists when it is in the non-working state. Also, when you get eCabSys running, are you adding components to this database using the Define Hardware dialog?

One more thing: I assume that your directory exclusions are remaining active after a PC restart?? Could you please verify that too?

With eCabinets closed, look for a file named LocalStore.ldb in the same folder and delete it. This is a lock file and tells Access that the database is in use (locked) by a user. Sometimes if an application crashes the lock file is not automatically removed and you will get the error you received.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I am getting this same error. Upon starting Ecabs it gives me this error and then stops there. I've done a file search and can't find a localstore.ldb file to delete. I have McAfee virus protection but I'm not that familiar with it and can't find an option to exclude a file path. Could someone guide me in the right direction? Thanks in advance for any help

Saul,

Look for the file { LocalStore.mdb } located:

On Win 7 or Vista: C:\ProgramData\Thermwood\eCabinet Systems\localstore
On Win XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Thermwood\eCabinet Systems\localstore

Then delete it, then run the latest eCabSys install and choose the repair option.
