Suggestion

Post by Josh Rayburn »

Would it be nice to have the following options for the cabinet editor view:
1. A button to show / hide doors and drawer fronts
2. A wireframe, restored view, and transparent button which holds it's rendering state (including transition to and from other editors, not just in main) until changed by user

Whatta y'all think?

Josh, you are always thinking! I like this idea! A hide button as well as a transparent button even.

When in the stretcher editor I like to hide the back of the cabinet while I'm adding and adjusting the stretchers. When I do anything in the editor, the back that I hide ALWAYS gets restored back in to view and I have to go hide it again. :wall: When adjusting a stretcher, the same thing happens, hide it, go adjust, click done, cabinet is restored with the back in full view.

Is there a way to hide a part and keep it hidden until I leave the editor?
Sincerely,

No, hence my suggestions! Yeah I hear ya Donald, that's my problem too. Not just stretchers, I like to wireframe the whole cabinet so I can see things that are overlapping, or misaligned, or who knows what - so then you go to fix it, and then back it goes to the restored view just like you said.... :wall:

Apart from metal draw clip drilling to draw fronts (you knew i was gonna say that :) ) being able to manually adjust the height of hinge boring positions on doors, as they always seem to end up hitting my evenly spaced shelves.

Maybe we could allow stretchers to define openings too.

Ability/option to assign a hole pattern to knobs/pulls. I spend too much time creating and constraining pull holes for slab doors and drawer fronts when I'm modifying cabinets...

You took the words right out of my mouth Nat! Even worse is trying to constrain those handle / pull holes on a large pantry door with no way to zoom in.....

@^ Hold in ctrl on your keyboard and click a point and drag a box out and voila, you are zoomed in on the area you need to see.

The ability to constrain a fixed shelf (or stretcher for Rick). This would allow "standard" draws and allow base resize. Also would allow pantry resize and lock upper or lower doors to retain match to adjacent

Allow face frames and "float" to position fixed shelves and/or partitions instead of visa versa

Allow a fixed tenon thickness. (Iknow, I know, materials change :wall: excessive dado depth has the same negative impacts) Makes blind dado to face frames work great

User customizable draw front hole patterns, similar to doors

Allow hole patterns assigned as "custom KDA" for pilot, pocket holes etc. to coexist with dado joinery to enable move with part on resize. Dont need anything revolutionary here, just what my wholesale customers ask for

I agree with the button for wireframe, and one button to show/hide all doors/drawers. Also the ability to assign hole patterns to pulls/knobs. I also spend a lot of time putting those holes in with the part editor and constraining them. The ability to have the backs of drawer fronts drilled for metabox clips would also lend itself to drawer front adjusters if you're doing a wood box.

I know I'm doing something wrong - I just can't figure out what. I'm trying to add a left-right stretcher with up-down orientation to this cabinet. It keeps telling me the dimensions are unworkable for this cabinet. I need to add a stretcher at the top as a nailer to hold this beast to the wall. It will be made from the same hickory sheet goods.

Can anyone tell me what I am missing with this? TIA

I have to apologize. I had clicked on start a new topic for the previous posting and somehow it got placed in this thread. I'm not intentionally trying to hijack the thread. Any way to move it?
