Videos in Windows 8

Post by Dennis Englert »

I've received a couple of calls about the videos on Windows 8. It appears that some of the manufacturers setup "XBox" as the default player for files that are DRM licensed.

If you attempt to play a video and it comes up to an XBox screen, you need to close that screen. On your computer locate a Windows Media Player (.wmv) file. Right-click on the file name, then select the "Open with" option. Choose the "Set as Default" option. Then choose Windows Media Player from the listed applications.

You can also navigate to the Control Panel, find Program Defaults and set up the default player for .wmv files to Windows Media Player.
