Hinge plate holes in framed cabinet

Post by Jim Lovejoy »

I seem to be having some odd behavior of hinge hole locations in a framed cabinet where the doors are inset and the hinge plate holes seem to be on the wrong side of the partition I am attaching the doors to. If I go into the editor and change the positive depth of the holes I can get them to come out the other side. This seems to be new to the latest build. I have used euro hinges in framed cabinets before.

I am attaching cabinet, perhaps someone has a suggestion.

Jim,

The reason you are seeing this is because your cabinet is a face framed cabinet but you are sort of wanting it to be a hybrid between face framed and frame-less. Hole patterns on a framed cabinet locate themselves from the inner openings of the face frame components. Now, when a component is removed (such as your left and right stiles) it treats it as if the component is there but at a zero width thus positioning the hole pattern seemingly on the wrong side of the part. The best way to resolve this hybrid situation would be to go ahead and add the components but set them as Phantom parts (that way they do not show up in CNC, Cut Lists, etc). I recommend setting them to be the same width as your material just for easier gap calculations. Now, when you add the doors on to the cab as inset doors, you will need to set the gaps to a negative value to achieve the correct reveals/gaps desired. You can also set phantom parts to be hidden in the cab/assm editor if desired (if they bother you while designing). I will attach a reworked cabinet that matches the reveals/gaps that your original cabinet had. Hope this helps.
