Working with eCabinets cut list in excel

Post by Scott Marshburn »

I have cool trick on how you can automatically add macro buttons to your excel workbook that ecabinets generates when you export cut list to excel.
Here is a link to a video that I made if you want to check it out.

So. I have been working on a few videos lately about how to select the different worksheets from the excel workbook that it generates when you export their cut list into excel. I have 3 videos so far on how you can create a master workbook with a user form that will allow you to select any or all of the worksheets from the eCabinets workbook and then Import them into the master workbook.

Here are the links to check them out. If you are Interested

Hi Scott
Thanks for sharing that Video. A feature I was unaware of.
I looked through your other videos as I was hoping you may have done something with proposal/quotes using Ecabinets. The proposal side of Ecabinets is lacking a bit of flexability and hasnt been on the improvement hitlist of the programmers.
If you have something you use to extract the data to do your quotes I would like to see that.

Regards

Hi Neville. Thanks for the reply.
That is a good Idea I will look into that. Are you wanting to modify the actual proposal that eCabinets generates? If so I think that you can save that file. Then open it in word and modify it there. If you are wanting to develop your own proposal using the data from the excel workbook. I am sure that can be done also. However I have not attempted that. I do use it to create finish estimates and purchase orders based on the data in the cutlist workbook that eCabinets generates.
I have a video where I create a cabinet size report from the SheetComponentListing. I use something similar to calculate the amount of finish needed for a given job.
Here is the link for that video.

Thanks Scott. Wow it’s great to see someone so familiar with Excel Macros.
With Ecabinets proposal we don’t use it for clients benefit but for our calculations. We just want to know the materials required and labour estimated. With the cut list you could obtain information that would create information to be used. For example you could apply times to process parts. Time to edge based on edged lengths. Assembly based on cabinet size or type, Time to cut and fit doors based on door size and quantity. You get the picture we all have stages we construct so if you take it from the Thermwood or in some cases the saw right through to loading it on the truck. If you had the zip code you could even get the travelling cost. The lengths of all the modules would give you the lineal meters or feet of boxes and then apply a install cost.
Maybe hardware applying might be harder but edge tape should not be hard, fasteners, hinges based on door quantity etc.
The good part might be doors which can be a pain when people want a few alternatives. That could be a quick pulldown box with different doors listed.
Really Scott it could be a program you could charge for if you had enough interest. If people want them modified they could do that themselves or have you build in their personal quirks. Hope I haven’t broken any rules on the forum mentioning money but it is reference to excel not Ecabinets.

All the best

Thanks Neville for the feedback. Your suggestion is defiantly possible.
I am curious as to how other members would like to use this cutlist that eCabinets generates.

Scott, maybe the question should be how many people generate their proposals through ecabinets module. If they would like do so,what is holding them back. There was a thread on this a couple of years back on what improvements people would like to happen.

Here is a quick video on how to use the advanced filter and SumIfs to summarize your eCabinets Cut list in excel.
https://youtu.be/2Duh78jZtjY
I will be doing two videos on how to do this. These videos are to prepare you for the series that I will be doing on modifying the five piece door break down from the eCabinets excel workbook.
In the next video I will show you how to do the same thing in VBA.
Here is a link to download the workbook if you want to follow along.
