rotating drawn lines in part editor

Post by Chris Armstrong »

occasionally when we get jobs that require us to draw the kitchen up through part editor to workout our cabinet sizes.
earlier on this year i had posted that i had a problem nesting in a part on our cnc due to the way it was programmed in to the sheet. the link to the post is http://www.thermwood.com/forums/viewtop ... =3&t=15716

if we were able to rotate the drawings around to match a viable sheet size it would be easier to nest and not create the errors i had received.
would it be a viable option to be able to rotate the drawings or is there already the ability to do so that im missing?

Chris,

To rotate in the Part Editor Contour use the mirror to line function.

Draw a line on the page to a 45 degree angle using angle snap.

Select all lines in the drawing then click on the mirror function and choose to mirror to a line.

click on the line you created and this will rotate the drawing 90 degrees.

You will then need to eliminate the original drawing and the lines you created.

Chris,

You are still using the vertical line to mirror .

Draw the 45 degree line

Select your box that you want to rotate using select chain

Click on the mirror option and choose Line

Now click on the 45 degree angle line you just drew to mirror to it.

Your box will rotate.

Try drawing the line at 22.5 degrees and mirror to that.

Chris,

You should be drawing a line to mirror about half the angle you drew your geometry. For example, if you geometry is drawn at a 45 degree angle, your line to mirror about should be drawn at 22.5 degrees. However, Contour Mode doesn't seem to be cooperating with the decimal in the angle. The vertical line should be at 90 degrees but it is measuring at 89. When the programmer is back in, I'll question if its a bug or a reason why it is like that.

In the mean time, email me the cabinet you are working with that has the geometry at an angle that you would like straight up and down to cabinets@thermwood.com and I'll see what I can do with it. Or if you have the geometry saved from Contour Mode, you can email me the x_t file it creates and I should be able to work with it as well.
