Make a MDF door with a flat "raise"

Postby Stuart Douglas » Tue, Jun 30 2020, 2:43PM

I'm struggling with an MDF door that is supposed to look like a five piece. I want the interior edge of the frame bits to have a profile, and the panel to be flat. I can't seem to create a tool that makes the panel flat and recessed across the whole field of the panel, and I cant seem to fudge it by creating a display panel, and then parking the profile cuts. I get a panel with an island in the center, and no way to cut it, or an error telling me I can't cut on top of a profile. I'm sure I am missing something simple, but I can't seem to figure out where I'm going wrong. :wall:

Yes, I realize this is going to open quite a bit of the MDF core, and likely be unstable. I still need to do it.

Stuart,

Maybe this thread will shed some light http://www.thermwood.com/forums/viewtop ... =3&t=18019? Mostly look towards my response to Forrest.

Maybe it's a protocol problem, I was profiling first, then pocketing. It couldn't make a pocket that touched the profile. I'll try to see if this works tomorrow, Thanks.

Stuart,

Once a profile is applied you cannot do any pocketing on that part. Make sure you follow the steps, create the pocket, constrain it, and then apply the profile. If you don't apply the constraints, the "door" won't be able to be resized.

Stuart, I did figure out that my profile tool couldn't touch the bottom of the pocket. After that its a piece of cake.
