Wine rack Cabinet

Post by Wally Schneeberger »

I hope someone can steer me in the right direction on how to add diagonal strips to the lower part (open) of this cabinet to create a wine rack. I have been trying for a couple of hours now and can't seem to find how. TIA.

here is what I came up with real quick, maybe you could piece together an assembly or something then lay it in there....I was thinking you could probably cut the pattern out of a display cube pretty quickly also....

Someone posted a wine rack just like that some time ago. Search for diagonal wine rack and see if that is what you are looking for.

Thanks all for your responses. Mike thanks, but George you hit the nail on the head, this is exactly what I want. I tried using display cubes to do it but couldn't place and trim them. How would you do what you showed.

Thanks Mike - That's not quite it but how did you put the shelves in the cab and rotate them?

Wally,

Acutally it's a display cube sized to the inside dimension of that cabinet, then taken into Part Editor. Once in Contour Mode I figured out the geometry, made an outline of what you see, then back into Part Editor and used the Create Part Using Closed Contour option.

Make a display cube then put it into the parts editor. Then cut your squares into and cut them through. Go into the contour editor and make triangles on the corners of your cube to make it into a square (or rectangle) and go back into the parts editor. Right click the mouse and choose 'cut pocket using closed contour' then choose your contour, do this for the four corners and bring it back into the main editor. Make a copy of it using CTRL C & V. Place them into your cabinet and associate the grid with your cabinets and save.

Okay Leo -- If I understand you right ... you are starting with an over sized rectangle and cutting square holes in it .. then cutting off the corners and rotating the piece when you insert it to the cabinet? Thanks for taking the time to do this. I have been trying for the last 2 days.

It sounds like you've got it. If you get any errors when trying to do the cutouts make sure you don't separate the display cube into 2 individual pieces. It won't let you do the cut. I had it happen in the corners. What I did was make a rectangle instead of a square to get rid of the extra little triangle piece. When I did it with closed contours it told me what was wrong. But when I did it with geometry cutting it just said I couldn't do it with no explanation. Took me about 10 seconds to figure out how to do it and 1/2 hour to do it.
