Upper extended end issue

Post by Jack Duren »

This cabinet should have an extended end with a deck extending 1/2 past the right end, but leaves my deck on the cutlist 1/2 too long. I've lost patience as I have got the correct settings before but not this time

What am I doing wrong? Thx Jack

Use a negative 1/2\" inset on the right side of the deck.

The cabinet is 52 1/2 long with 1/4 dado in the left finish end, plus a -11 1/4 inset from the right side of the frame. If I apply the -1/2 inset on the deck it makes the bottom shelf 52 1/2 long. Looks correct but cutlist is incorrect. Thx Jack

Jack,

Not sure if this is the right way to do this, but try setting cabinet width to 52\", right scribe to -10 3/4\", then the right end of the deck to -1/2\" inset.
I think having the neg. inset on the right scribe is making it so you can't neg. inset the right end of the deck and get the right dimensions.

Here is the picture with the changes I suggested. Doing it this way, with the -1/2\" inset on the deck, makes the cabinet 52 1/2\" wide.

Gene thx. I've thought of this as well. Problem is remembering to make each upper extended end 1/2 smaller than needed makes me have to think  .....Jack

Jack,
I think the problem is you're trying to do 2 things, -11 1/4\" inset right end and extend bottom 1/2\" past right end, when the program will only allow you to do 1 or the other.
When I design a cabinet like this, a blind corner upper, I put a face frame over the extended right end. This allows me to put a 1/2\" scribe on the right side and have the bottom extend past the right end 1/2\" and the cutlist comes out right.
I'm still learning this program, but I've found a few times that I just have to cheat the system, as in the above example, to get what I want.
Of course, the next post will be somebody with a simple fix to this.

Ok I'm back to solving this problem. Its a typical Kansas City construction technique.

So what do the senior members say? Can or cant?......Jack

Jack,
This should do what you want.
Change your right deck construction to Side Flush and put a negative 1 1/8\" inset for right deck and a 1 1/4 bottom inset for your right end.

Kerry this still does'nt work. Only readjusting the face frame. The cabinet is 52 1/2 wide and still makes the deck 52.5.....Jack

Jack,
Did you download my cabinet to look at the settings. The deck is 52\" with the 1/2\" extension. This should work.
