I am sure that others, with much more experience than I have with eCabinets, will also comment.

I have recently gone through the search, comparisons of different machines with many different features, and finally purchase of a laptop that will run eCabinets much better than my almost-five-year-old laptop with integrated graphics. It should arrive this coming Monday.

So, with this as background, I offer the following comments - please take them with a grain of salt:

1. You could use a LOT more graphics memory - either 128 or 256MB on board.

2. In addition, you could also use a LOT more main memory - maybe 2 GB, to make yours a better experience with eCabinets. I have read several posts in which the user is doing OK with only 1GB RAM, though, so this could be a moot point.

I look forward to the replies from others, and will be following this thread. Good luck!

George Davidson,

Al's correct in the need for more memory in both the mother board and chipset.

However, I must admit I am shocked by the images you have been able to produce with that computer. You have been doing great work. Does your computer seem to crawl at times with larger files?

If not I wouldn't go all out to fund a new computer if that one is working fine.

And (more main memory - maybe 2 GB)
Ever time I ask Best Buys how can I up grade my computer they say it's

I would like to comment that using the amount of memory as a benchmark is flawed. A few years ago, faster graphics cards generally had more memory; today, this isn't true.

I can speak from test results that a 128MB nVidia Quadro FX 550 graphics card will run circles around a 256MB ATI Radeon 9800 XT, even tho the Radeon has more memory.

On Windows XP, you can't beat the Quadro FX 540/550/560 graphics cards on the price/performance scale.

It should be noted, that the bigger your monitor and the higher the resolution you use, you will need more memory in that situation.

The folks at the airport aren't using OpenGL 3D graphics so there choices aren't in the same realm.

I'm running a (ATI) Radeon 9200 series, 128MB. When I first installed eCabinets it ran fine, now I'm having all kinds of problems. I uninstallled it and reinstalled it several times, (each time having to download that 26MB update PAIN IN THE .... ) I even did a system recovery to see if that would fix the problem. All my other programs seem to run at their normal speed, eCabinets is slower than a dog. I've deleted all of my old job files but it still shows them on the list under \"file\". Did I do it wrong??
I just opend a new job and I only have 4 cabinets, a stove, dishwasher and fridge, and it's taking forever to load them.
Any suggestions??????

Just wanted to chime in here and reiterate something about graphics cards that has been mentioned in the past: Update your drivers. Visit your manufacturer's website and check for the latest releases and comb through any info you can find. You may find that settings for a similar software program help speed up eCabs.

I should mention that an updated driver won't ALWAYS mean better performance with a specific piece of software, so make certain that you can revert to what you currently have before you update, just in case.

George,

Have you tried an online supplier? I'm a big fan of TigerDirect.com
