Trouble with a Fixed shelf

Post by KevinDunn »

Hi All,

I am embarrased to ask, because I have done this hundered of times but...
For some reason I am having some difficulty adding a fixed shelf to a cabinet. I have specified the shelf have full dados on both the left and right sides, however when I add this to the cabinet it does not include the dados.

The part is called out as a fixed shelf, but the dados do not appear on the cutsheet or in the exploded view. As a side note the deck has the same properties and it is showing up without any problems.

I am sure I am overlooking someting simple, I appreciate any assistance.

Thanks

Kevin

Kevin,

It may be that you're overlooking something. However, I have found that a few of my cabinets have become corrupted, after I changed that cabinet many times, instead of using a seed. Metamorphosis is not good for the cabinet files.

Can you upload that file?

Thanks.

Mike,

Thanks for the help, attached is the HSF file.

Update on the problem, I tried to add a fixed shelf to other existing cabinets and have had the same results, no dados. I am guessing I may have changed a global setting I am unaware of??

Thanks

Kevin

Kevin.
In the shelf/Partition editor make sure you highlight the opening by clicking on it and that the Fixed shelf radio button is selected. Open Construction settings and make sure full dado is selected as construction for a fixed shelf then exit construction settings and click Add shelf.
It should place your shelf with dadoes.

Kerry,

I will retrace my steps and double check, I have approached it with the following steps.

Load cabinet
Change constructions settings for a fixed shelf to full dado
Go to shelf editor
Click on the opening
make sure the fixed shelf radio button is selected and the select \"Add Shelf\"

As a very odd side note, I tried this again last night on a completely different cabinet that had a full dado for the deck. When I preformed the above steps it still added a shelf without dados, BUT removed the dado from the deck. Literally the dado for the deck disappeared in front of me while in the shelf editor.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Kevin,
Check the construction Settings for a fixed shelf while you are in the Shelf/Partition Editor.
The fixed shelves often lose their settings and revert back to butt. It is one of those aggravating things.

Hi Kevin

Small detail, you have to highlite the shelf not the opening for the changes to take effect. Also the cabinet could be corrupt as michael mentioned.

When I did it I brought it into the cab editor and then into the shelf editor. I highlighted the opening because there was no existing shelf. Choose fixed w/dado and hit add shelf. It added the shelf but it looked like there was no dado. I brought it back into the cabinet editor and used the exploded view and the dado's were there. I don't think the cabinet is corrupt. Maybe he didn't check of the appropriate box, or something like that.

Hi Guys,

Well all seems to be working fine today for what ever reason.

Leo I did notice as you said that in the cabinet editor it did not show the dado, but after returning to the main editor the dado shows up. Going back into the shelf editor they then show up.

All is good, thanks for the input everyone.
