Am I missing something?

Post by Gene Kimmi »

I am designing a large corner entertainment center. I need to add mid styles and partitions. The drop box in the ff editor doesn't have a mid style to add. Nor does the shelf and partition editor have partitions to add for a face frame angled corner cabinet. I guess I never noticed this before.

I'm guessing I will have to add display boards and panels to use for the mid styles and partitions then load the doors and drawers and associate them in the main editor rather than in the door and drawer editor.

Does this sound right or am I completely loosing it on this one? Here is the cabinet I am working with.

Gene,

I have never noticed this either - but most of my corner cabs are for kitchens. I believe your work around (display boards and panels) is the best way to proceed. Let's see if someone else proves me wrong (happens almost every day....) and we learn a new work-around.

Gene and Dale,

This is my wobbly start on this one. I used a display panel, 2\" wide and the same height as the cabinet. Then positioned it carefully to appear to be a part of a face frame. However, I was not able to change the texture.

I wanted to give this a shot, as I am learning a little bit at a time. I would be interested to learn if this would be acceptable. Is THIS waht you meant, Gene?

Al,

That's along the lines of what I'm trying to do. I need to have a center style in the top and bottom opening of the cabinet. I also need a partition behind each style. Then I will put glass doors on the top openings. On the bottom, I will put doors on one design and copy another design with 4 drawers on the bottom.

Here is the cabinet with the center styles the way I need them.

Here it is with doors. Sure is a lot slower adding parts one at a time. Also makes me think too much.

Wall Angle Corner Cabinets
Here are some other issues I have found with Wall Angle Corner cabinets

Mid Stiles
I can't add mid stiles to a corner wall cabinet either. That option is missing from the drop-down list.

Mid Rails
If you want to add mid rails you have to turn off Face Frames and then turn them back on and then add the mid rail or else the Door/Drawer editor doesn't recognize the mid rail and the the whole face frame gets highlighted.

Parts Editor cuts on Top Rail
I can cut an arch on the top rail of a wall cabinet using the Part Editor but when I try it on a Wall Angle Corner cabinet, the Arc doesn't cut the top rail correctly.

Thanks, Gene! I am glad that I was headed in the right direction, and learned something new.

Lee
, thanks! Did you submit a suggestion about improper cutting in the Part Editor? One thing I learned in the course: Submit feedback (From the pull-down menu, Communications | Feedback).

Gene, you could build a second cabinet to fit inside the angled cab. Just remove the top, bottom, sides and back. That should make your doors easy.

Sheer genius, Rick! Thanks for teaching me such a valuable lesson. I must archive this one somewhere special.

Rick,

I'll second Al's comment. Below is the cabinet using your idea. Doing this I ran into the same problem I'm having with all my assemblies in which I delete sides off a cabinet. The doors will not place right on one side of the cabinet.

Hey Gene, I stuck a frameless cab in there and doubled the center partition. The doors came up the right size in this configuration. They wouldn't with the single partition.

Rick,

Is this the correct / modified cabinet? If I go into the shelf/partition editor, I can add only a shelf; the menu does not show an option to add a partition.

LOL! And I thought it was a bit too early for me this morning... :D . Thanks!

BTW, when I try to download the new file, a new browser window opens with all ASCII stuff in it. I believe it might be in the file suffix ( *.esa, not *.esj ). So, cannot download :( .

I see :?: what you mean Al. It's saved as an assembly (esa) so it should work.
