Shelf front edge question

Post by Jon Reichert »

Hi new user question here: I'd like to apply a 2\" high x 3/4\" thick face pc to the front edge of a 3/4 thick adjustable shelf. The top of the shelf and the top of the face pc need to be aligned. I intend to do a miter joint to join the 2 pcs together. How is all this accomplished? Tried creating a thick edge banding but that didn't seem to work. Doesn't seem to have option to do this in shelf editor. Any suggestion greatly appreciated!

Jon you could do this by either adding a stretcher or a display panel in the material of choice allowing enough meat in both shelf & edging to machine your miter.

Hi Jon, welcome to the forum. The problem with using a display part is that it won't resize with the cab. Using a stretcher will resize in width but if you need to move the shelf up or down you will need to move it manually. The edge banding works with wide stock but the program displays it as flush. It does however show up on your cut list correctly. It will also move and readjust too. To have the correct dimensions for your miter you will need to give the shelf a 3/4\" negative front inset. HTH

Thanks! I played around with adding a stretcher. Seems to work good enough. Maybe someday a little checkbox will be added to the edge banding editor to create non flush edges. Seems like that would be a LOT less tedious. Pictures were helpful. Thanks again for the help!
