Are flip-ops okay? (question for CNC users)

Post by Joe Dusel »

I'm designing some RTA cabinets that I'm planning to have milled on a Thermwood router and I'm wondering if it's a big deal to have flip operations on some of the parts. Does this create problems with accuracy? Does it eat up a lot of time per part?

Thanks.

Joe the short answer is no. If you have your fence set up properly and have a system to process your flip op parts it does not take a lot of time. obviously there is a lot more part handling but no more than if you were to do it on a CNC work centre and a hell of a lot less than if you were to do it by hand.

Hi Joe

We try to avoid flips when possible. We do a lot of RTA cabinets and have some tricks to avoid flips  If you give me some details where you are running into flips maybe we can help. As Nick mentioned its not a big deal to do them but imagine if you had a fairly large job with a couple hundred flip ops, I can think of more productive things to do.
