Off topic - A sad moment

Post by Paul Ellis »

We had a sad experience this past week.
We had to take one of our dogs to be put down - she was just over a year old but had massive kidney failure (20% use left) and she did not respond to any
medication or special diet. The hospital sent us a card with the following poem.

The last battle

If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep
Then will you do what must be done?
For this - the last battle - can't be won.
You will be sad I understand,
But don't let grief stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest
Your love and friendship must stand the test.
Only, stay with me till the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
Don't grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do
We've been so close - we two - these years
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your dog Paul.

As a dog (and cat) lover, I can fully understand what a sad time this is for you.

We have three dogs, a female Jack Russell Terrorist (9 years), a male Pomeranian (1 year) and a one-eyed female Pomeranian (3 years). The female Pom had glaucoma when she was very young and had to have her right eye removed.

Paul, sorry for your loss. I too love animals. ( 1 male dachhound, 1 female dachhound, 1 blue/gold Maccaw, 1 parakeet, 3 savannah monitors, 2 large iguanas, 2 red tail boas.) We had 1 other lizard, but it past away two weeks ago. Not sure how old it was. We found it running loose in the petco store and we showed it to the manager and he said it looked as if it was going to die anyway, keep it if you like. We had it about 1 1/2 years. It seems like we end up rescueing everyones unwanted pet.

Paul Ellis,

I can truly sympathize with you here. I had one leave two years ago and I cried like a baby. I have one now that is within two more years to go.

And, the worst part is; I can see it coming.
