M90

Post by Claudio Bianco »

I think the Dell M90 has been discontinued. Is there a alternate recommend laptop to run Ecab?

Looks like you're right. They have been replaced by M4300 (15.4\" screen) and M6300 (17\" screen).

This kinda caught me off guard a little. Since we are a VAR for Dell, I access the Dell site through their Extranet. We can still buy the M90. After Jason pointed out your posting, I went and did a double-check and sure enough, the retail store no longer lists the M90 but the Extranet still does.

Anyway, we've updated the recommended systems page PLUS added a new vendor (HP/Compaq) as an option for those that don't want (or like) Dell.

Dean,

Have you lowered the graphics card requirement? I thought you used to specify the NVidia Quadro FX2500M, but now you specify the NVIDIA® Quadro FX 1600M.

I am just wondering... Thanks for any clarification!

It appears that the nVidia Quadro FX1600M is the only option for Dell's Precision Mobile Workstations now. It has 256MB of dedicated RAM and should be more than capable.

The 2500M was never a requirement, per se; it was a recommendation. PC buyers are always welcome to exceed our recommendations. I've taken the cost/benefit ratio even more into consideration this time around. The recommended systems will give very good performance while keeping costs somewhat lower than if configured with the 2500M. On a side note, I don't think the 2500M is even available from Dell anymore, is it?

Additionally, the recommendation for the desktop system has dropped from the Quadro FX 4500 to the 3500 because we're running that card in some systems here with very good results; this provides around an $800 savings.
