Wine Storage Cabinet

Post by Brian Shannon »

Any suggestions on building a refridgerated wine storage cabinet. 100-200 bottles, about 42\" wide and 6' tall. I did see the post a couple months ago of the one made of Walnut. I was wondering if anyone else has built one. Need info on insulation, cooling units, condensation, glass doors. etc.

Thanks George. I checked that site the other day. I don't know if I want to try to encase(or skin) a wine refer with cabinetry, or build a wine refer and seal the doors, install a cooling unit, etc. It's for a basic home use(not too fancy) and can't get too pricey.

Just off the top of my head, I would definitely buy a manufactured unit and wrap it to match cabinetry...
(I mean, would you build a refrigerator from scratch?... )

I do think that would be the best bet but they do sell cooling units for the purpose of cooling a wine cabinet. I think that's just more unknown stuff than I'm willing to deal with since I've never built one.

check out a thread from Dec 22, 2006 from Peter Firth on his cabinet. I remebered it as it was quite well done. I don't know how to post the link or I would do that to help you.

Just one idea.

Peter's cabinet is the Walnut cabinet that I mentioned. What a beautiful job he did! He used a cooling unit and sealed his own doors. I think a cabinet like that may be a bit much for my client. At this point, I may search the websites and find a \"scratch & dent\" special wine refer to skin.
