Version 5.2
Is there any chance of testing Version 5.2 for Christmas? Beats watching football or old movies on television.

Kerry,
Although you may have already read this thread on the Beta Forum, this relates to your question. I will forward this on and see if there are any new developements since that thread was posted.

In a recent communication with Jason, he told me that some time this month, maybe late in December, 5.2 would be out for Beta Testing (edit December 4 2007, to add the stuff in color). I am sure it will depend on progress by the programmers vs. target milestones, etc.

Re: Version 5.2
Hi Kerry,
Unfortunately, the programmers tried to get the beta out this week but looks like it will be released after the first of the year. Now you can spend time with your family instead of the software
I hope you and all of the eCabinet members have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Bummer. I was looking forward to finding it under my tree. Ho, ho, hum...
This is actually a very good time for me to be testing it since the Christmas/Hanukkah rush is over and clients seem to be waiting until the beginning of the year to get new projects started. I think you might even get more testing done now due to this.

Jason,
We can spend time with friends and family all year. Christmas with a new version of eCabinets, now that would be a blessing.

I've been looking for Ken to pop down the chimney with a new Thermwood for the last few Christmases but it ain't happened yet. He's got the right hair color but needs a beard.Joe Dusel wrote:Bummer. I was looking forward to finding it under my tree. Ho, ho, hum...

Re: Version 5.2
Well its the new year Todd and Jason. Are we getting closer to a beta release?
Is there a list yet of what made it into 5.2?
How long does it normally hang out it Beta testing land before it is released to the community?
Sorry to be a pain. The video's is what I'm hanging out for, being a new user. None of Britanny Spears though.
Regards
Neville

Re: Version 5.2
Hi Neville,
All I can say is that beta is getting closer. The holidays slowed it down and the programmers should be back in full swing. I only know of a couple of items slated for V5.2 from the list. The first is a new and improved room layout. There is also an addition to the amount of hinges used per door. New video tutorials will be added and more will be made. Beta testing depends on the bugs that are found and how difficult it is to fix those bugs and if fixing those bugs causes other bugs.

Re: Version 5.2
So Jason, should we refrain from finding too many bugs during the beta-testing? We could if it helps.

Re: Version 5.2
Well let's say that you get the 5.2 early this year. Let's say the first quarter. How about the 6.0? Would you try to get it out before the show in Atlanta? That could be some kind of a relieve. At least you know to some extend when it's going to come out. Right now we are like small kids around Christmas. Waiting for Santa to come down the chimney and drop us a present.

Re: Version 5.2
Hi Georgi,
V6 is scheduled for summer/fall time period. Hopefully it will be done by the IWF show but this is strictly a guess.

Re: Version 5.2
Thanks for the info Jason. With version 6 and I guess any version how do you work out what area's to work on? Is it based on dealers input and users feedback? Do you ask the beta users for their input?
If someone wanted a area improved to suit their operations and you didn't think the software change would be that useful for the group as a whole would you do the change if he paid for programming time? Its not that I'm interested its just I was wondered what your policy was?
I do a lot of routered mdf doors for my operations and some other cabinetmakers as well. I asked the question about Ecabinets handling this and the reply back from the forum was that Ecabinets was a bit weak in this area and for commercial production I should look at a commercial door program like paneltrix. I think that's spelt incorrectly but do you think you have a weakness there and is that on your version 6 short list to address. Naturally I don't want to spend this extra software money when Ecabinets will do close to the same thing and its all in one program. Flicking from one program to the next which I currently do is causing the odd mistake. If its a couple of years away I will have to rethink my position.
I hope the programmers are enjoying their Red Bull drinks to get 5.2 out there.
Regards
Neville
