Melamine Board Cabinet Construction

Post by John Pippert »

Is anyone using Melamine 3/4" for thier framed cabinets with blind dadoes and if so what are you setting your fit clearences ? We have been using .03 for plywood, but not sure on the Melamine. Also with blind dado are you using ROOGlue white for melamine or just carpenters glue.

Thanks

Hey john, We have been using .02 and it seems to work out great (tight but not to tight). Mark

John,

We use 3/4" melamine and plywood all the time. We also have our tolerances for plywood at .03" and we use the same for the melamine, just to keep a standard and not have to change catalogs. We used to use .02" for melamine but the guys in the shop like the looser fit.

We also found a high viscosity glue from CP Adhesives (I think it is called MPA) we use for blind dado construction. The thicker glue doesn't drip out of the dado as much during assembly.

Should be getting a material deposit this week.
white mel. boxes w/ 1/2" backs. Levelers for legs. What do you think about insetting the 1/2" back?

Do you have a set up for pre-drilling for confirmat construction?
