Hey,
Well I finaily loaded parallels for mac.
loaded new windows xp/ service pack 2.
Put in V5 ecabinets got to enter code screen typed in code
It told me that it was not regersted to this computer

Enter new registeration code
started to update
then quit
screen came up and said, this version of ecabs has expired cqll number 887 880 4638
is this supposed to happen

You have to download and install the latest update after installing from the CD (see top of this forum).

Suggestion: Create a LARGE job using plain old standard cabinets inserted into a Custom Layout, and render the job. Does it behave well, i.e., it does not crash, is the rendering speed OK?

I can say for certain that eCabs in VMWare on my Core 2 Duo iMac is very, very, very sluggish. I cannot speak for Boot Camp where you boot into Windows, since I've only got the virtual machine going.

I have a MAC Pro with 3 gigs of ram. ECAB runs on Paralells ok.Not the best perfomance but ok. However I installed bootcamp with VISTA and Ecab runs very sluggish. I think this may be a Vista issue. Im looking for a new XP disk now. However If I can get it to run on BootCamp I think I can fully utilize the Video card drivers and it should run better than it runs on my PC and better than Parallels since VMware and Parallels dont fully utilize the Video card drivers. Problem is my card is an ATI (with 512MB of Memory)card not an Nvidia. Mac has released a new Nvidia card but im a bit gun shy about going out and purchasing a $400.00 card that may or may not work for Ecab. The only thing that has been holding me back from Ecab is the perfomance issue. I have a PC in my shop that handles it ok. It also has an ATI card. However the drivers for the Mac are different and dont seem to be optimized for best performance in OPENGL.

Im looking at getting a laptop in the near future. I have not decided to go PC or MAC for the laptop. what I love about the Mac is you can have the best of both worlds. However If I can not get ECAB to run then I have a big decision to make. That is go with a PC laptop or use another design software. I have tried several others and they run fine on my mac with parallels

So Bottom line if anyone is running ECAB on a mac with good results PLEASE Chime in. I think there are a lot of Mac users out there that are not touching Ecab because of this issue.

I run eCab on a MacBook Pro with Bootcamp and Windows XP. (2.33 and 3 gig of ram) I have had absolutely no problems with it. It's not quite as fast as our computer at the office but that one was spec'd and bought specifically for eCab. For taking work home and going to see customers it's never a problem.

Thanks for the feedback. I purchased an OEM copy of XP. Updated my drivers and ECAB now Screams on my Mac Pro. Much faster than any PC i have ran it on. Im very impressed. This helps me make up my mind not only on ecab but on what laptop to purchase. Looks like a new macbook pro with 4 gigs of ram is in my near future.

Mac Pro (desktop/workstation)
2 Quad Core 2.6 GHZ xenon Processors
3 Gig Ram
ATI1900x Video Card with 512 MB

I would say that if performance/productivity is an issue, going with Boot Camp would be much preferred over virtualization.
