Out of curosity Bill, did you install Vista as an upgrade on a computer with XP already installed? If so, the files may be in the Windows.old folder. This is just a stab in the dark.

Dan,

No. Both computers came with Vista on them. You are right about the users file. That's where I found them.

Thanks again,

Bill is referring to the folder C:\Users\User_name\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files. This is where Vista stores files now instead of in C:\Program Files.

In one of their strokes of genius, Microsoft decided that changing the location of files would prevent hackers from gaining access to your computer. Unfortunately for Microsoft, the hackers are usually a few steps ahead of them and have their next scheme developed before Microsoft can respond to the last one.

That's what keeps anti-virus and anti-spyware vendors in business.

Well, I uninstalled ecabinets and reinstalled it following the Vista Installation instructions. I also upgraded the NVidia drivers to OpenGL drivers. The performance was terrible. Rotating a cabinet was delayed by 5 or 6 seconds. I have uninstalled ecab again and I am reinstalling it without admin privileges or XP compatibility mode. The performance is great, the program finds the files and I know where they are. The Vista install notes would lead you to believe that the program could not find the files that were written to the Virtual Store but I am not having any trouble with that.

You will have to uninstall the software and reinstall it. Make sure you run everything as administrator. This is why the directories were not in the correct location. Follow the guide lines in the sticky post Windows Vista Install.

Do you have Vista?

No I do not have Vista but I have seen this happen before. This happens when the software is not installed as administrator.

Read my post, the one before yours. I went back to an install without admin privileges and without XP Compatibility.
