Hello everyone,
I am working on a project where there is a soffit right above some cabinets. How do I create that in my drawing?
Thanks in advance
Fetter!

Re: Creating a soffit
Hi Sergio,
I am working on drawing a bathroom and I am going to have to put a soffit over the tub area. Any way what I am going to do is create a cube the size of the soffit I need texture it the color of the wall and then place it in the room on the wall and move it to the top of that wall.

Re: Creating a soffit
I use a wall unit without all the parts except the top, then it is simply a matter of adjusting the size, material and the placement high. You will also find it easier to add cornice moulding this way.

Re: Creating a soffit
Good point about the molding application. Just remember to filter the soffit out of your nesting.

Re: Creating a soffit
Just out of curiosity, after installing cabinets, I added additional walls after changing the wall thickness to match the soffit depth. If the attachment comes through, I started the two walls from the inside corner. Initially, the walls may come in overlapping the original walls, so the walls build would need to be reversed. Then I cut a rectangle from the wall that removed the entire bottom of the wall up to the top of the upper cabinet.
If a soffit length needed to be changed, it could be, but the cutout for the soffit would have to be redone. The wall texture can easily match the current walls or the texture changed to a different texture. The texture would also automatically scale, so there would be less issues with skewed or out-of-scale textures.
I did notice that the hot key to edit the wall did not work. Either that or I was just impatient, since I did notice a slow-down on my computer when I saved the attached .jpg. I, also noted and indicated in the first paragraph that you should install the cabinets first. It did not want to align a corner cabinet at the corner of wall 1 and 2 with the soffit wall #3 in place.
While this method is not without problems, it is a method. I could imagine doing additional cutouts like an arched soffit over a range or other feature and adding lights. Though this could probably be achieved with some of the other methods indicated.
Anyways, you have another choice.
