Edge Bandets!

Post by Adam DAgosto »

Hi again,

The darn Edge Bandits have struck again! Pretty much every single project I have worked on has found Edge Banding sneak into it, even though I never click that button (except to remove it after it snuck in!). But that's another story.

This time I am having a problem with edge banding finding its way onto my doors. I can not seem to keep it off of them. It's like a bad date from High School; she just keeps coming back. I keep getting a 1/4" edge banding all around my doors!!!

I don't select doors with then nor ask for them, somehow they just get installed with them. The last job I did was the first job I did with adding doors. I know, I know, thank you very much, it was a big moment for me to put doors on and have eCab figure out the door sizes. But this project I find myself doing the exact same process but these doors all go in with banding.

HOW ON EARTH DO I GET RIDE OF THE EDGE BANDITS!!!! :wall:

Any help as always would be most wonderful.

Thx.

P.S. I am using the Conestoga door that is Standard Flush batten, alternate source for build and I have chose Red oak for color.

Adam,

Mouse over one of your doors and make sure you have the Conestoga Flush Batten (I don't think it has edgebanding that would show up) it sounds like you have a slab door.

If you are using Slab Doors and don't want banding you will have to create a banding material named None that has a 0 thickness and 0 width and 0 cost then choose this banding when you create your door.

Whatever door and banding that was used in your Seed Cabinets will be the default until you change it.

You can also create an MDF door using the material of your choice with no profile cuts to create a slab door with no banding.

You are absolutely right! I have a slab door or drawer in there. For some reason, I cannot get it to take any other type of door or drawer front. I tried a bunch of different ones.

I go to drawer/door selection, pick the door that I want, select Alternate build and then click on Close.

No matter what I try, I can not seem to get a different door in there.

Any thoughts?

You need to select the door or drawer front as your default.

Even when I set it as default, nothing changes. I really mean it, it wont take ANY other door other than a slab door (that has edge banding).

You have to remove existing doors and drawer fronts, set the default, then add them back.

Put here on. I'll tell her how great you are.

Man I was pulling my hair out and I don't have much left!!

I'm not onto new problems like, why do my cabinets suddenly get edge banding stuck into them?

I just ran another cut list and there they are again. just one band on three different cabinets. It always seems to happen for some reason. I used to test software at Honeywell and my job was to find bugs in software that was used on aircraft (flight controls, navigation all that god stuff). This "Edge Bandit" issue has a lot of similarities to a bug.

Have you heard anyone else having this problem?

Thanks again,

Adam,

Your seed cabinets must have edgebanding. Any cabinet you create from these will also have the same banding.

Post your job for us to take a look.

Kerry,

I know I thought about that and I checked and it didn't have any EB.

I also installed the cabinet and checked and there was NO EB. However, later on in the course of building the room, they snuck in there.

I have not noticed when it does it, but at some point they find their way in, hence, Edge Bandits. I like the way that sounds too :D

I can post the room, but it's huge now and I also removed the EB from the effected cabinets.

Is it still worth while posting it? Also, I can just post one of the specific cabinets that had it on it, if that helps.

Thx.

When you're in the Room, you can select all the cabinets with doors w/ eb and then right click and choose Adjust Cabinet Features->Change->Doors. Just remember to go fix all you seed cabinets at a later time.

George,

Be sure and enter a value of 0 for cost, width and thickness
You have to enter a length
You have to select a texture image (use one that matches your material if you don't want the banding to show.
