Import an STL file

Post by BillHightower »

I have searched the forum and read a great deal on STL files but how do I actually import one and convert it to an hsf and jpg file set? I am sorry, I guess I am just slow.

Bill,

Place your .stl file where you can find it.

Open eCabinets and go to the Display Part Editor
Click on Open hsf/stl and navigate to your .stl file
Open the .stl in the Display Part Editor and apply a texture and make any other changes you want
Click Save and place it in a directory using the save dialog
It creates the .jpg along with the .hsf
Your .hsf will be in your eCabinets/import/whatever file you created

ps. Did you finish your office? I would like to see some pictures.

Kerry,

Thank you very much. I got it!

We had all the parts of the office cut by Bill Rutherford. They came out beautifully but we have not had time to completely finish it.

Bill,

I just finished converting all the Osborne Wood Products .stl files to .hsf. (371 files)I took them into Accutrans to make sure they would rotate properly then opened them in the Display part editor and gave them textures and saved them as display objects. This makes them very easy to use. If you would like a copy of this let me know and I will send you a link to download.
I am also about half way through converting the Hardware Resources wood products.

Kerry,
Put me on your list for those conversions. I have some, but not all of the Osborne and none of the Hardware Resources. Many, many thanks for this work. I wish more vendors would do this for us. Thanks again.

Dennis Englert

I'm sorry, somehow my response tagged onto the wrong topic. This should've been appended to the topic about no replies from Thermwood.

Kerry,

Yes. I would appreciate the files. Email me the link. I have some but not the number you are talking about. I live about 1 hour from Osborne during the summer and I plan on visiting them this year.
