Cabinet back full dado with scribe
Is it possible to select a full dado back and have it inset to leave a 1/8" scribe? See picture. When I try to do this I get a full dado the width of the back 1/2" and a 1/8" piece of material left on the cabinet side. This would break off in a heart beat and not leave me a scribe.

Don,
I guess I am not getting your explanation. You wanted a 1/8" scribe but say it will break off. Looks like you got what you ordered. You can make the inset anything you want as well as setting the dado depth. I do mine at 3/8"
Maybe I don't understand what you are asking?

Re: Cabinet back full dado with scribe
I apologize Peter. I've attached another drawing that shows what eCabinets gives me when I do full dado back with a 1/8" inset of the back. That little bit of material just hanging there is what I know will get broken off and I'd like eCabinets to not put it there.

Assuming you're using 1/4" material, what about setting your back material at 3/8"? This would make it machine properly. Only problems I can see with that is if you use the same material for another part of the cabinet and/or need to pocket it.

Re: Cabinet back full dado with scribe
I wonder if a fit tolorance of 1/8" would do it.

I think you would have to eliminate the 1/8" inset

Don,
I think you will have to take the sides to the part editor and remove the piece using a rectangular geometry cut the depth of your dado

Re: Cabinet back full dado with scribe
To get it to show graphically in eCabinets Kerry's suggestion is the way to go, however, this will created an 1/8" wide pocket at the machine which means an additional operation. If you would like it do be done in 1 operation per dado then Brian's suggestion is the way to go. By using Fit Clearance in the Back Settings - Construction Parameters the dados will be made wider by that amount. So you should remove the back inset value and apply 1/4" Fit Clearance for dados. This will make the dado 1/8" wider on both sides. Keep in mind that the Fit Clearance value is not applied to the graphical display in eCabinets. It is only applied to CNC data.

Re: Cabinet back full dado with scribe
Don,
I see what you are trying to do. A simple solution would be to add/create a new sheet panel to be used as the back that has the same thickness of the inset total. This will affect your nesting efficiency for waste control since it will be considered a different thickness than all the other sheet goods for the cabs, but the impact will be minimal and you will know to add this to your order list with the right thickness. In any event, no editing would be required.

Re: Cabinet back full dado with scribe
Thank you all very much for your insight on this.
I think I will apply the fit clearance method and over cut the dado size. It won't show up graphically but that's OK because I don't think the customer is concerned with this level of detail. They seem to be more concerned with how pretty it looks from the front.
Thanks again so much!
