New kitchen

Post by Gene Davis »

Got the order for this one a couple days ago.

To be built into a room with three dormered windows, the ceilings all built under the roof, there are 54\" kneewalls around the three sides of the room, thus no room for uppers. The little black spotlights you see spread around the perimeter, mounted to the pitched ceiling, are 12V Juno fixtures, and should provide not only some nice task lighting for the countertops, but some drama as well when dimmed.

There was no way to do a fridge other than to build the unit into one of the dormers. The window it blocks has no view, and in fact looks out onto some on-roof AC units, so it is no loss. The other two windows look at Lake Placid and the Adirondack mountains.

Fronts, as were the previous five kitchens in this condo project, are all CVG douglas fir, stile and rail with flat center panel, with beads milled into the panels on 1.5\" spacing.

The owner, speaking for his (unknown as yet) buyer-client, questioned what dish and plate, and glassware, storage and retrieval might be like in a kitchen without wallcabs. I told him we would outfit it with deep drawers in strategic places, and use the Blum Orgaline plate racks in them. The glassware can go in the uppers (12\"deep) flanking the SubZero fridge, and more can go in the 14-deep undercounter cabs behind Martina. She is named after her favorite drink.
