Gary,
Awesome, I see you have been using that for 9 yrs. I think that is great if you can keep track of it. I personally like to keep everything under a tight tab. I don't let anything slide by, not ever the items that we use for ourselves. But I have people watching after it; and I think that is the main thing. If you are in your office all day and someone you can watch after the cuts and make sure that the fall off is correct, and it is punched in the computer, it is great. But you must have allowances for variable. This is what gets me the most... variables... errors, breakage, misplaced... etc. I my experience if the shop is not large, then a just the old system paper and pen will work better than a computer.
What do you think?

Sergio,

You must be on a much larger scale than I am. My inventory consist of maybe 4-6 sheets of plywood and maybe 50 bf of hardwood. I am a one man shop and have all the control on what happens. The off fall I don't worry about to much unless it gets to be a 1/2 sheet. But if I stick to the cut-list layout it is dead on. If I have to deviate, lets say because the job is so large ( my space is very limited ) then it can cause me to have to get into another sheet so I have to adjust.
