Dado request larger tool for no reaseon

Postby DanFecteau » Thu, Mar 22 2012, 2:24PM

For what reason when I have a dado for example, 1 1/8'' wide, the control nesting does not want to use my 1/2" tool ??? How can I change this ? I have to use my 5/8'' wich is an up and down so it's not working at all !!!

Thanks.

Dan,
Control nesting can use a tool to cut a dado which has a width of up to twice to tool's diameter. Otherwise it would have to be a pocket. This feature has been requested before however is not currently implemented.
Hope this helps.

Ok, but the cabinet is made with eCab, can I set up my tools so it uses my 1/2" tool or till there's no upgrade I can't do that ????

Dan, you can change the thickness of the tenon which creates the dado to solve the problem, or you can use a 5/8" or larger diameter tool.
Alternatively, you could change the tool diameter in the tooling database of the 1/2" tool to 0.625" to fool control nesting, and write the code. Then change the tool diameter in the tooling database back to 0.5" and run the code. The dado operation is a compensating operation so once the part is cut, you will end up with an island in the middle that you'll have to clean up with a chisel, but the outside dimensions of the dado will be correct.
There is no other work-around that I'm aware of at this time but if TWD chimes in otherwise then we'll both have learned something today.
Hope this helps,
