Tool Selection

Post by Stephane Kovari »

Once in a while, we have cabinets that use a Hidden Tenon at 100% the thickness. In this case it is 1.22'' thick. When we get to the machine to machine the part with the pocket for this tenon, it searches for a tool that has the width of 1.01'' to 0.505''. We often use a half inch downcut for this procedure. I was wondering if there was a way the machine can still choose our 0.5'' inch bit and make a third pass the machine the full width?? Of course the easy solution is to buy a 5/8'' bit, but i was just wondering if there is a way not to to keep the same tool in the arm to do all of our machining without having to add another bit???

Stephane.

Hi Stephane,
Unfortunately dado operations cannot be turned into a pocket. You will have to choose a tool that is at least half the width of the dado operation. If you are machining from a .dxf file, you have the option to rename the layer "pocket" instead of "dado".
Hope this helps,

Perhaps this is something the development team for Control Nesting should look at though...

If an operation is specified as a DADO (eCab/TWD or in a Layered DXF), yet an appropriate tool cannot be found to perform the DADO using the "Dado Operation" process, then fall back and approach the rectangular region as a POCKET.

Just a thought

Brad,
We have been asking TWD to consider that for five years!
