Update Windows 2000

Post by J Sidney Smith »

While our control nest is running fine we are having some issues with sheet and label printing. As our older printers needed replacement we looked for options in new equipment and came up against roadblocks related to our old operating system. We are running Windows 2000 SP3. For a while we printed remotely using logmein but recently that stopped being a viable solution.

Our computer tech wants us to update to the latest version of Windows 2000 (SP4 Update Rollup 1). However, I have read elsewhere on this forum that we should not attempt to update Windows from the version of Windows 2000 that came to us from Thermwood. Can someone confirm this for me? The technician claims he can clone a separate hard drive, then update Windows on the cloned drive and then test for issues while using the cloned drive with updated Windows.

Any input on this will be appreciated.
