ATH tool changer moving after E-Stop

Post by Jeremy Schiffer »

This happens pretty consistently on our CS45. After E-Stopping with ATH tool #1 in the spindle, the tool holder arm will swing down and hit the dust hood, then retract back to its proper position. The PLC history reports that one ATH arm didn't retract. It sure looks retracted, but perhaps there is a position sensor that needs adjustment or something...

How do I go about fixing this? If the dust hood weren't on there, I assume it would be whacking the tool, so before that happens I'd like to get it fixed.

After an unanswered forum post and an unreturned phone call to Thermwood, we decided to go ahead and tackle it.

In case anyone has the same issue, here was the problem and fix:

The position sensor seemed to be about 1/4" lower than the ones on the other cylinders, and indeed most of the time the red indicator light was not lit, which is what was triggering the error. It had not vibrated or slid out of place, as the screw and clamp were still plenty tight. We loosened the phillips head screw on the silver clamp ring and got it adjusted to the proper position. It works fine now.

This machine is 7 months old, this was our second issue with it, and both times I have ended up being disappointed by Thermwood's service.
