Problem with elyptical geometry

Post by DanFecteau »

We do a lot of archway doors, one of our new standard is elyptical arch way, it's fast and easy to draw but I have problems when I machine the parts, when the cutter get in the \"curv\" its's do little \"jumps\" ??? Is it the machine, mastercam, autocad ????

Dan,

Most of your CAD softwares output ellipses as splines (or small straight line segments. Your machine is most likely reacting to the series of small straight lines. I recommend you convert your ellipse (spline) segments to arcs. That will solve your problem. I have been using Mastercam to accomplish this here.
