CNC rental problem on a metric machine

Post by Lafras Uys »

Hi All

We have a customer interested in a Model C40. we loaded a carving rental program on the machine to do a demo (File - RP-FR-MF0001). we machined the back of the part then did the flip-op. The front of the carving starts of by taking away most of the material with the 0.375" dia end mill cutter, after which it stops retracts about 2" above the material and cuts out the back part again, it shifts down a 1/4" after each pass until it cuts through the material. have you had this problem before on a machine? or can it be because it is a metric machine?

Your urgent reply will be greatly appreciated

Hi Lafras,

Currently, we are not aware of any issues with the listed carving. You will want to be sure to have correctly setup the tooling for which is listed in Tooling setup for this particular carving, in the Tool Manager of your machine and also be sure all Daylight values are correct. Also, when setting information in the header of your program such as "SET ZSHIFT=?" you will want to be sure this in the default dimension mode of your machine.

I hope this information helps. If you continue to have issues setting up this program, please contact: program@thermwood.com for additional assistance.

Hi Ryan

The "SET ZSHIFT=?" is correct, like i stated it has machined the back and the first pass. But instead of picking up the next tool for machining it moves above the board and cuts in the air. The program is about 125 000 lines of code, it gets to about line 11 000 and then jumps back in to a loop which cuts the back. I can not read the code (as you know the thermwood does not allow you to see the program if you are running a CNC rental program or carving)

Lafras,

I am leaning towards the tooling not being setup correctly in the Tool Management of your machine. Be sure to reveiw setup PDF file and make sure the designated tooling is setup accordingly in your Controller.

Following up on this topic, it was found that the FULL LABEL scan setting in MSU file for this particular machine was set to NO. Most Cabinet shop series machines leave the factory with this setting set to YES. The setting allows the controller to scan beyond line 5000 for existing labels (M80L#). If the part program contains more than 5k lines of code and has labels in it, labels will not be recognized beyond the 5k mark. Again, this setting only applies to part programs that will be using labels beyond the 5k mark, which is typically only done with our Control Nesting output code and with Rental Carvings. By setting the scan value to NO for machines that will likely NOT be run in this senario, this will improve speeds for part program scan time.

NOTE: This setting can only be changed by qualified Thermwood personnel having proper software tools.
