I cut 4 X 8 sheets on my 45 all the time and sometimes put a scrap 18" X 60" X 1/4" melamine on the back edge of the table. It sits there minding it's business without much attention from me. I've been cutting a lot of solid wood parts lately so I put cover sheets over the unused area to help the vac. Cutting full sheets without the extra cover doesn't seem to be a problem at all.

I would like to encourage anyone considering either the 41 or the 45 to go for it! I bought a 45 when the 41 was still being tested but I am sure that the only issue with a smaller machine is the size. Thermwood is an incredible company and the quality of their products, along with their support, is second to none. I don't know about all you guys but I try to buy tools that are a lilttle above my current needs, if I can afford it, and usually do not regret it. I find that in time I grow into it. One thing I found out about the larger size of the 45 is you get a much better yield from 5' wide sheets than you do from 4' wide ones. Also, I have profile modeled several different moldings and the 10' length of the table is useful for that.

I live in California and the construction industry here has all but completely evaporated but I would not trade my router for anything. It is the best tool I ever invested in! 8)

John,
The 41 will physically take a 49x97 sheet. I have heard a rumor that the nesting software or the router travel limits the nesting to 48 x 96 so you can't take advantage of that extra inch. Check with thermwood.

Pat's right, the machine will hold a 49 x 97 sheet. It will make full use of the 49" width, but it cannot make full use of the 97" length... well I supposed you could trick it somehow, but as it is set up it won't nest onto it. That extra inch actually hangs off the spoilboard on the home end of the machine. When we flycut our wasteboards (which are 49 x 97) it flycuts about 96 1/2", leaving a bit of the wasteboard uncut. This actually interferes with placing a 97" long sheet on top of it, so you have to cut your wasteboard to 96" long.

There used to be a video on the main Thermwood website showing a Rotary Playback in action. Basically, it is an attachment that allows you to machine a piect of stock on all four sides--like a carved leg. It machines side one, rotates 90 degrees, machines side two, etc.

Thanks guys for the additional info. The rotary play back seems like a great attachment, but for our shop I don't see the need.

It is pretty impressive. I can see it being worthwhile if you had a good deal of work that required matching an existing item, but for mass production you would have to have several heads or it would just be too expensive in machine time. It seems like I've seen a multi-head Thermwood several carving legs at once...I just don't remember where THAT video is either.
