Melamine chip

Post by Stephen Tinkler »

Hi

Dose anybody have a problem with this, when we are cutting mfc and mdf there is a tool line left as the tool raises up from the part on mfc it chips the melamine, the tool
seems to comp in to the work piece as it lifts out!

Thanks Stephen

Steve I am not sure what you mean by comp in" but all I can think of is your cutter is blunt or incorrectly sharpened, the up-cut section is to large or your ramp in is too gradual.

Nothing wrong with the diameter, we use 12.5mm and 10mm 3 flute Onsrud cutters and get very good clean results and long life. Up cut section is under 10mm.

Yup we have the same problem, seems like our suppliers destroy a perfectly good cutters just to get you to buy new ones!! i cant fathom why else they would do it because they use the most sophisticated equipment to sharpen these spiral cutters. I find the biggest error is that the cutter is sharpened in such a way that the back edge of the flute hits the board and chips like crazy so it is useless straight after being sharpened, then you have to fight with the company who deny all responibility and tell you the cutter is over sharpened, so buy a new one.
