Cherry Fireplace surround

Post by David Norton »

Got this finished up while the truck was in the shop for a new engine. Did not feel good about using solid lumber on the sides and top ,so we veneered those parts. Only had to buy the crown, made both dentil pieces. Actually the wife made the larger dentil, she thought it would be fun to try.

Geo, actually this was designed for the client before I started using Ecabs.Just didn't get around to building it till this past month. Boy was she patient

George, the crown was a pain, but it is something thatt I do all the time. The dentil is \"always\" a pain ! :)

Wow David. Pretty impressive!
Was it an after the fact type of deal?
Were the bricks and marble in place before you did the woodwork?
Did it go like a glove?

Jean, thie brick fireplace has been there for about 30 yrs. give or take. Client added the marble before the cherry surround went in. I made several trips to comfirm measurements. It was assembled from four sections on site. All the components were pocket screwed from the back. NBo fasteners show except the pins for the mantel mould.

George, The wife was responsible for the large dentil, she did a great job. Since it was her 1st time in front of a table saw I erred on the side of caution and made the small dentil.
