DXF Lettering for eCabinets

Post by Doug Gilford »

I have had a lot of eCabinet members ask me about being able to do lettering within eCabinets (especially those people with Thermwood CNC Routers).

I figured that if we had a selection of DXF lettering sets available in different fonts, then one could simply import these letters into eCabinets and either create letters from their outlines or cut away the shape from the original part.

This could prove to be extremely useful in shopfitting and a variety of other situations.

Are their any members out their who might have the resources, time, patience and good eCabinet community spirit to create various lettering sets in DXF file format that all of the members could share?

Here is a set of just the letters. I can seperate the letters, but this will take some time. If there are any special request for a specific letter I will try to accomidate. Someone can try them if you like.

I've tried for several hours to make these cut with e_cabinets but I am at a stand still for right now.

DXF File

Post by Doug Gilford »

Mike, you are a LEGEND. Well done.

It sure would be good to get that courier_new separated.
If you happen to get on a roll, Times New Roman is always a popular choice along with some type of script font.

I tried a few letters and they are a bit funky, however with a bit of manipulation and re-saving them as a X_T file in eCabinets, they can be dragged out, placed on a part and either cut out or cut away.

I'll do a bit more work on it and keep you posted.

The basic sort of approach was to import the letter, copy it, \"create Edges\" save it again. Like I said a little funky but i will come up with a sure fire sequence and post it here.

In the meantime, keep up the good work with the DXFs.

I have attached the numeral 1 in Arial font, take a look, it works great

Number One

Hi Michael

Number 1 cut out and looks pretty good. Next time I`ll use a 3mm cutter, that will get a finer result. Thanks so much for your input. I`ll send you a picture when I`m happy with it.

Cheers

Very welcome Doug.

It only takes me about 15 minutes per set, both capital and small letters. I labled the small letters with a double letter. I didn't know of any easier way.

I am happy to contribute. :P

I love this ideal but I really hate polylines, especially if these are blown up to larger sizes. I would rather collect fonts that are made from only arcs and lines.

Maybe I am just being too picky here. :?

If you guys have a particular typeset you would like to see. I will be glad to share it with you. I just don't have the time to retrace with archs.

I can provide lettering, words including curved paths for the lettering.
