I have designer block
I have a project to do and can not come up with a design.
The flat screen needs to be closed in and two book cases with bottom cabinets one on each side. Now tie it all together
Any Ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Re: I have designer block
Gary, you also need to be thinking about those air registers on the wall where the right-side bookcase top will go.
Maybe want to replace the mantle shelf with something that is deeper to match the bookcases and span between them. You could use multiple stepped crowns to get the depth. Then close in the TV on the "shelf".
I did one like that several years ago - if I can find the pics I'll scan & send to you. No TV but otherwise very similar situation.
Did the base cabs in MDF on the fireplace side to be safe - the stuff is so dense it wont burn unless it's in a furnace...
Had to cut back the L/R hearth brick overhang with a masonry blade on a grinder to get the cab's flush- VERY messy.
The mantle projection needs to be to code, usually - something like max. 3/4" projection for each 3/4" away from the top of the firebox, STARTING 12" above. Check your local inspector.
Just some ideas to kick-start you.

Thanks Joe,
This poject is for a very good clients mother and I don't think she wants to bump out the mantel ( that was my first thought)

Re: I have designer block
Gary,
This may be an extreme example, and does not include doors to hide the TV but it may jog something.
http://peterwalshbookcases.com/cherryentertainment.htm My web site also includes a "before" pix.
I hope this helps.

Re: I have designer block
Another problem with trying to hide flat screen tv's is the fact that they are wider than they are deep so pocket doors are kind of ruled out.You can still put doors on there that swing open but then they are in the side view angle. Bifold doors helps some but will not eleminate the problem. Another thing you might consider would be some type of picture screen that would cover the tv when not in use.

Re: I have designer block
Damon, when I was trying to design an ent ctr with a pop-up flatscreen in the ctr base cab I got an idea from Lamar Horton which worked great. This is the original discussion thread-
http://www.thermwood.com/forums/viewtop ... &sk=t&sd=a
The doors are bifold pocket setup. The cabinet is 6-8" wider than the flatscren so the doors can extend into the sides alongside the TV. George Davidson and Kerry also helped out a lot with the layout - go down to the WhisperRide TV lift thread below to see some of the cabinet layout. The space in front of the TV and between the pockets is still usable for storage, and the false back and pocket panels are removable for access to the door slides and to the rear compartment.
Joe
Gary - I didn't think about putting the TV in one of your side cabinets. I assumed it had to stay over the mantle...

Re: I have designer block
I don't know if this will help but I did one similar situation for covering the TV I used the blum Pegaso opening system in my case the Tv was small enought I could use a single with vertical lift but they do make doubles and horiz units. looks like you have the height might need a pull string to close it thought LOL

Re: I have designer block
Thanks to all for your ideas and thoughts. The light finally came on and I am in the process of making the drawing now. In between cutting the bathroom project, then assemble the project, then install the project, getting the blades to the guy to sharppen them, cleaning the shop, answering the phone, and what ever else.
