Frustrated

Post by Brandan Hanz »

New user to eCabs here but very, very satisfied. It only took me an hour or so to get completely up and running producing renderings and most other forms of output from the software. However, :wall: , I absolutely can't get the generated cutlist output from eCabs into ANY form that CutList Plus can use. Can anyone help me please? I am very happy with CutList Plus and do not want to change.

Thanks,
Brandan

Hi Brandan, First off it would be useful to know what Cutlist Plus requires as input?

Nick -
Thanks for the quick response. I can use a .csv or .txt file to be imported OR it can capture Windows clipboard data (the second way is the easiest i have found).

That what you are looking for?

Brandan,
I have been able to import to Cutlist plus. You need to export ecab to excel and you will get a file with several sheets. Cutlist Plus will only allow you to import one sheet at a time. I usually import my sheet good listing first then import my hardwood listings then any other sheets I may want to use such as doors and drawers.
Next step is to set up your import wizard in cutlist to match the headers in your excel workbook. This was a little tricky and I had to play with it a while. I would give you my set up but it is on my computer in the shop. One thing I do remember is to set a standard width in the import wizard and then do group edits once you import the csv file.

Speaking of CSV you must convert the excel file to CSV and save it. You can not have the file open when trying to import it to Cutlist or it will not work.

you can call me if you like and I can walk you through it.

Thanks a million. I tried to call but the female that answered said it was the wrong number  !! My number is 210.825.9704 - I would love the opportunity for you to walk me through the process. I have a job that has about 200 doors and drawer fronts that I need to start production on - sheet goods were delivered yesterday!!!!!

Branden,

email Todd at cutlist plus and tell him what your wanting to do he will walk you through it.
I have been doing it for a while and it's not that complicated once you do it.

1) export ecab cutlist to excell

2) then go to the sheet good tab and save it as a cvs file ( you will have to do this again for the face frames)
You can only save the tab that is showing on the screen.Save them to your desk top

3) shut down ecab. then go to cutlist plus and import the cvs file (sheet goods) you will more than likely have to modify your material information. A import wizard sheet will appear, you have to click on each line and make the import column just like this one. When you get to the thick line in the default column you have to put .75.

Why not just arrange everything in Excel. I have not seen anything Cutlist Plus will do that I can not do in Excel.

What is wrong with the sheet layout in the nest that ecabinets provides? Prior to getting the router, I would use the nest provided by ecabinet with it set to straight line cut.

Damon, these sheet optimizers allow you to customize and fine tune the layout.

Damon,
I have found the layout in cutlist plus to be more efficient than ecab. It gives you a lot more freedom to move parts around and get the cuts exactly the way you want them. You can also adjust grain orientation on the fly. For instance if you have stretchers that the grain orientation does not matter you can do that and fill up space on a sheet in a couple of mouse clicks rather than going back in to the editor of ecab

Brandan,
Follow Gary's wizard and you should have no problem. Just remember to save as a new filter.
