Automatic oilers?

Automatic oilers?
One of our automatic oilers on the X axis doesn't seem to be oiling, all of the other rails have a oily dust deposit at the end of the rail is there something that needs cleaned?

Hello Terry,
the first thing is to check that when the machine is out of e-stop and in running mode, that there is 8 lbs showing on the autolube regulator. If that is correct, check the sight glass on the oiler. Make sure that there is a drop every 2 to 3 seconds to start with. If not, there are adjustments on the top of the oiler. One says "air feed" and the other says "oil feed". The "air feed" screw is adjusted by opening up 3/4 of a round from closed. The "oil feed" is adjusted while watching the oil drip in the sight glass, you can adjust it to drip more frequent if you feel it is needed. If those conditions are set and it still doesn't seem correct, I would try to clean the bearings by purging air through them. In cases where the bearings could be packed full of debris, you may need to remove them and clean them out. Hi Terry,
There are 4 bolts you would need to remove. Depending on where the bearing is placed on the machine, you may need a "short" allen wrench to fit it into the socket head bolts. The bearing is either equipped with a "push lock" style plastic fitting or a brass type ferrule fitting to hold the oil line. The remove the oil line from the "push lock" style fitting, push the tip of the fitting against itself and pull the line away in the opposite direction, and the line will pull right out. The ferrule type just uses a threaded nut.

Terry,
Before you pull the bearing off, do a simple test. Pull the oiler line off the bearing and aim it at a piece of glass ( a drinking glass works). If it's working, you will see a film of oil on the glass. If it's not working, hit e-stop and blow in the tube. This might dislodge any debris in the tube. You might want to disconnect one of the lines from another bearing first. Do the glass test again. We had a dry rail on our cs40 and the only thing that worked was to adjust the oiler to give a drop every 1-2 seconds. Gives a little too much on the other bearings, but we just give the rails a wipe occasionally.

Terry, we had to mess with our oiler alot when we first got the machine. We turned up the oiler until there was oil running out everywhere and then backed it down. We had to put a small wood sliver in one of the lines, cock the block on the back of the gantry out of level, and make sure that the glass globe on the Z axix oiler is perfectly level. Also, make sure you are using only 5w spindle oil (you can get this from Thermwood) and not air tool oil. Air tool oil is too heavy (usually about 10w) and will plug things up. Even aft efter all this we still have one ball screw bearing that oils more than the rest.
