Can This Project Be Done?
Hello and Happy Holidays,
I have a few issues to talk about so work with me here.
Please see the pdf attachment for a picture of the project. I need to design something similar to this bed. The entire project needs to be designed with eCabinets and cut on a CNC machine (maybe yours--more on that later). Take note of the 45 degree "chamfers" on the sides of the tall "towers" on either side of the bed. Also notice all the detail in the tower tops (basically everything in pink). That's a job for the part editor for sure.
Here's my question: can eCabinets be used to draft every aspect of this project?
The next question is, who do I talk to about existing libraries that can be shared that may include something like this?
And finally, who do I talk to about cutting this on their CNC machine? The whole idea here is that I need to design this thing as fast as I can and farm out the cutting to someone who has a CNC. Then the parts will come back to the shop and the other guy will take over and assemble it.
So, if you can provide me with a little wisdom and guidance, I'd appreciate everything you have to offer.
Thank you,
Adam

We'd be happy to cut it for you, but the design is up to you. Looks painful to design and to cut, but that's what we do.

Re: Can This Project Be Done?
Just a note on the displayed miters.
The different drawing areas of eCabs does not account for portions of a degree, for example 22 1/2 degrees. Thus if you put two 22 1/2 degree mitered edges together they will not appear to mate correctly.
If you need to portray that degree of precision, then you'll need to use fundamental drafting methods to create a centerline of a 45 degree angle. Those methods can be found in a basic drafting manual, descriptive geometry manual, "The Nearly Complete Guide to eCabinet Systems", or our online video tutorials.

I am not sure if this is the right way
But this is the way I get my angles

Re: Can This Project Be Done?
Refer to the two drawings.
PE-Octagon 3.jpg Two lines, #'s 1 and 2 are drawn from the center of a circle at 0 and 45 degrees through a larger circle. Two overlapping circles are drawn from the intersection points of the large circle and lines #1 and 2.
Where the two new circles overlap in PE-Octagon 6.jpg a line is drawn between the intersections. The line splits the 45 degrees into 22 1/2 degrees. This example is used in the tutorials to demonstrate creating an octogonal table top.
For a 22 1/2 degree tool, a line drawn from the origin at 90 degrees and another at 45 or -45 degrees would be used to determine the intersections.

Re: Can This Project Be Done?
This third file shows the Octagon. The angled lines are used as construction lines to mirror and create the many lines around the circle.
From those endpoints it was simply a connect the dot exercise from one lines end point to another.
